In his hometown of Wrightsville, Georgia, Walker played football and basketball and competed in track and field. He scored a record-breaking 85 touchdowns and led the football and track teams to state championships. Meanwhile, he maintained an A average, was valedictorian and became the nation's most sought-after player.

At the University of Georgia, Walker set an NCAA freshman rushing record, earned consensus All-American honors for three consecutive years and set 10 NCAA records. In 1982, he won the coveted Heisman Trophy as a junior. He left school in 1983 to join the New Jersey Generals in the short-lived United States Football League and was the league's Most Valuable Player.

In 1986, he entered the NFL playing for the Dallas Cowboys. He led the league in rushing and became an All-Pro. He then played for the Minnesota Vikings, the Philadelphia Eagles and then rejoined the Dallas Cowboys in 1996. He retired from the NFL in 1997.

In April 2008, Herschel Walker released his memoir titled Breaking Free. In Breaking Free, Herschel shares the inspiring story of his life and diagnosis with dissociative identity disorder - from the joys and hardships of childhood to his explosive impact on college football to his remarkable professional career. He gives voice and hope to those suffering from DID. Herschel shows how this disorder played an integral role in his accomplishments and how he has learned to live with it today. His compelling account testifies to the strength of the human spirit and its ability to overcome any challenge.

Herschel is currently competing on season two of NBC's The Celebrity Apprentice. This season 16 new celebrities will be vying for the coveted title, using all their business savvy as they fight for causes close to their hearts in hopes of becoming The Celebrity Apprentice!

His philosophy, "Run the race against yourself and not the guy in the other lane," is inspiring to people everywhere. Herschel is a moving speaker and enjoys the opportunity to share his message with audiences everywhere.
