Nurse was named the winner of the 2019-20 Rudy Tomjanovich Award, which honours an NBA coach for his cooperation with the media and fans, as well as his excellence on the court. It is chosen by members of the Professional Basketball Writers Association (including two Toronto Sun writers).
Nurse led the Raptors to a 53-19 record in his second season at the helm. The first, of course, ended with an NBA title. Nurse had earlier been named NBA coach of the year for his 2019-20 work, but the Tomjanovich voting had been delayed.
According to the PBWA release about the voting: “Nurse is thoughtful with his answers to reporters’ questions and is generous with his time with the working press.”
