Arnold Schwarzenegger may have signed the world's toughest anti-global-warming law, but it is Terry Tamminen, his environmental adviser, who is emerging as the state's real [global warming] "Terminator." (TIME Magazine, April 9, 2007).
"Terry Tamminen...is probably the most brilliant guy around when it comes to the environment," says Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, (Outside Magazine, April 2007).
In the summer of 2003, Terry helped Arnold Schwarzenegger win the historic recall election and become Governor of California. He was appointed Secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency in November, 2003 and later appointed Cabinet Secretary, the Chief Policy Advisor to the Governor.
An accomplished author, Terry's latest book is Lives Per Gallon: The True Cost of Our Oil Addiction is a timely examination of our dependence on oil and a strategy to evolve to more sustainable energy sources. He has also authored several theatrical works on the life of William Shakespeare.
In 1993, Terry founded the Santa Monica BayKeeper and served as the Executive Director of the Environment Now Foundation in Santa Monica, CA, where he co-founded the Frank G. Wells Environmental Law Clinic at the School of Law, University of California Los Angeles.
In April, 2007, he was named the Cullman Senior Fellow and Director of the Climate Policy Program of The New America Foundation.
In September, 2007, he was appointed as an Operating Advisor to Pegasus Capital Advisors and became a partner in the Pegasus Sustainable Century Merchant Bank in April, 2009. Terry has also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Center of Climate Strategies since February, 2009. Through these institutions, Terry provides advice on climate, energy, and sustainability policy to the Obama Administration, several U.S. Governors, Canadian Premiers, Walmart, Netjets, iGPS, and other global leaders, helping them to build a sustainable environment and economy for generations to come.
Working with Governor Schwarzenegger, environmental groups, and business leaders around the world, Terry designed some of the most innovative solutions to our environmental and energy challenges - the Hydrogen Highway, the Million Solar Roof Initiative, and California's landmark Climate Change Action Plan. He currently lectures and advises several Governors, Canadian and Australian Premiers, and business leaders on energy and environmental policy, especially the solutions to global warming.
From his youth in Australia to career experiences in Europe, Africa and all parts of the United States, Terry has developed expertise in business, farming, education, non-profit, the environment, the arts, and government. He managed a multi-million dollar real estate company, owned/operated a successful recreational services business, and assisted the west African nation of Nigeria with the creation of their first solid waste recycling program.
Tamminen speaks on climate change, cap and trade mechanisms to cut carbon emissions, renewable energy and energy conservation, transportation alternatives, politics and sustainability, and environmental leadership in governmental agencies.
