Ron Foxcroft

Ron Foxcroft, President of a Hamilton transportation company, is best known as the inventor of the Fox 40 Pea-Less Whistle which is sold in over 100 countries. The Fox 40 Whistle is officially sanctioned by many professional and amateur sports including the NFL, CFL, NCAA and the NBA. Ron was the NCAA's first and only Canadian Referee. He has officiated professional basketball since 1963 and refereed a full NCAA schedule until his retirement in 1999. He has officiated in over 30 countries including the Olympic Gold Medal basketball game at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. In 1999. he was inducted into the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame.

In 1989, Ron’s Fox 40 Company was awarded the Ontario Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Small Business Achievement Award and the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Small Business Achievement Award. His dedication to his community is reflected in his involvement in numerous local projects and initiatives. He was named by Profit Magazine as one of the top ten Canadian entrepreneurs of the decade. In addition he was named by B'Nai Brith Canada 1995 Award of Merit Winner and in 1998 named Hamilton, Ontario's Distinguished Citizen of the Year. In 2001, Foxcroft received an honourary doctor of law degree from McMaster University.

Foxcroft retired as Canada’s only NCAA basketball referee on March 7, 1999, only to return to the game four years later in the capacity as a “game observer” for the NBA. He works with the officiators of the Toronto Raptors to improve on their judgment calls when refereeing. Ron has also since stepped down as vice-chairman of the Hamilton Bulldogs, although he is still a major part of the ownership group and remains on the board.
