Carl Hiebert has his roots in a simple Mennonite farming community in southern Ontario. Interesting beginnings for a man who has become an adventurer, author, aviator, photographer, and philanthropist.
In 1981, Carl broke his back in a fluke hang-gliding accident. Two years later, he opened his own flight school, and became Canada's first paraplegic flight instructor. And now three decades later, he is named as one of Canada's top adventurers and honoured in CBC's "100 years of Aviation History" for his epic flights across Canada in an open-cockpit ultralight.
His six best-selling books and photographs that have made a difference - documenting poverty and the HIV/AIDs pandemic in developing countries, have raised over $2 million dollars for charitable organizations. In recognition of his outstanding achievements and the inspiration he has lent fellow Canadians, Carl has received numerous awards: Paul Harris Fellow, Vanier Award, King Clancy Award, Paul Tessandier Award - International aviation award and an Honorary Law Degree Wilfrid Laurier University.
Carl's other adventures include a spectacular cultural and photo journey of "56 days around the world" and travelling across Canada on "Ol' Red", a 1949 vintage tractor to celebrate our rural land, farmers and the food production industry.
Carl now captivates and inspires audiences with motivational presentations and breathtaking images that challenge audiences to explore risk, attitude, and perspective.
