Andrew Winston strategizes with leading companies on using environmental thinking to drive growth. He has consulted with start-ups and Fortune 500 companies such as Bank of America, Reuters, Cisco, HP and IKEA. He is co-author of the bestseller Green to Gold, which highlights what works - and what doesn't - when companies go "green," and Green Recovery: Get Lean, Get Smart and Emerge from the Downturn on Top. He also served as marketing and development director for TIME magazine, director of business development for MTV and VH1, and VP of marketing and business development for the online arm of a national retailer.
Winston is a nationally recognized expert on green business, and has written for or appeared in Time, Newsweek, Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, Forbes, The New York Times, The Washington Post, ABC News, National Public Radio, and CNBC.
Winston is a sought-after and engaging speaker, providing audiences with a timely and dynamic view on how companies turn green to gold. He delivers thought-provoking keynote addresses and also moderates panel discussions at events of all sizes and venues. Winston's audiences have included executive retreats with the top management of the world's largest companies, thousands of attendees of industry conferences, associations, and trade groups, and leading non-profits and universities.
His work is based on significant on-the-ground, in-company business experience, including executive positions and P&L responsibility at global companies, start-ups, and dot-coms. With the Boston Consulting Group, he helped Fortune 500 companies grow and prosper.
Winston also writes extensively on green business strategy, including a bi-weekly column for Harvard Business Online. He is a founding member of the Advisory Council of the Marsh Center for Risk Insights. He was previously the Director of the Corporate Environmental Strategy Project at Yale's renowned School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. He received his BA in economics from Princeton, an MBA from Columbia, and a master's of environmental management from Yale. Winston lives in Riverside, CT with his wife and two sons.
Late in 2011, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities appointed Winston to be a member of the Green Municipal Fund Council, a key player in supporting environmentally sustainable municipal infrastructures across the country.
